Practically anyone is eligible for income protection insurance, but there are
certain basic criteria that you must fulfil in order to be accepted for an income
protection insurance policy.
Firstly, your age comes into play, as does your place of permanent residence.
In order to qualify for income protection insurance you must usually be aged between
18 and 64 years old. You must also permanently reside in the United Kingdom, Channel
Islands or the Isle of Man.
Secondly, you must be in active employment and have been for a consecutive
period of at least six months before the insurance start date. Income protection
insurance is not available to people in temporary or seasonal work.
Last of all, when you apply for income protection insurance it is imperative
that you are in good health and know of no forthcoming unemployment or disability.
If you are not honest about these facts when making your application for income
protection insurance then you risk invalidating your policy.
